Spiritual Direction might feel a bit intimidating if you don't know what to ask or what you might be seeking. I hope these questions and answers will suffice.

What should I expect during a meet and chat?

This is an opportunity for us to connect and determine if Spiritual Direction aligns with your needs. It's essential for me that you feel comfortable and connected to your director. We can meet either in person or online to explore what you are seeking at this moment.

What does a typical session look like?

We'll start with an opening prayer and a scripture reading. After the prayer, I will invite a moment of silence. I'll be praying silently with you until you feel prompted by the Holy Spirit to share a word or image He is showing you. This could take anywhere from 20 seconds to 20 minutes, as we’re not here to rush the Holy Spirit’s invitation into our gathering. As reminded in Matthew 18:20, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there..." I have faith that God will be present with us.

How do I prepare for sessions together?

Following our initial meeting and verbal agreement to collaborate in Spiritual Direction, I will provide you with a personal examen to review and prayerfully reflect upon before our first session. These examens are designed to encourage you to assess your relationship with God and recognize how He is manifesting in the words, images, or themes present in your life. During our first session, you will be invited to pray quietly and welcome God into the themes He has already revealed to you in your personal journey with Him.

How often should I meet for Spiritual Direction

The rhythm of Spiritual Direction sessions is once a month for 50 minutes. The frequency can be adjusted upon your need.

Is this the same as counseling/therapy?

The environment provides a space akin to what counseling offers. However, the distinction lies in the fact that it is The Holy Spirit who leads, not the director. The director's role is to guide you in maintaining a vertical conversation with God rather than engaging in horizontal conversations with one another.

What is your fee per session?

Spiritual Direction is a ministry that I've been invited into by God. I offer my support to anyone seeking to deepen their relationship with Him, and I provide a sliding scale for donations to this ministry. I have faith in the work of the Holy Spirit and trust in the process of donation-based support.

What if I don't know what to talk about?

This is where the body of Christ comes in handy. You are not alone, this is where I get to provide you with prompting and questions. I am here with you in prayer throughout the whole session, listening to God and trusting that He will reveal what you need from Him in that moment. This practice can feel intimidating at first but once you gain the confidence and connection with The Holy Spirit, conversations with Him become second nature (as we were intended).

How can I make the most of Spiritual Direction?

By staying connecting and noticing God in a daily walk with Him! Once you start to find these deeper thoughts and conversations with God, it is proven this is what we were made for. We were created to be in community with God and direction can be a beautiful avenue into this practice.
